C'mon team, fundamentals for the entire 4 quarters if we're going to get
to the playoffs...
The Manufacturer's Declaration of Conformity is a legal commitment of
the
company demonstrating that this equipment is in compliance with ALL of the EU
Directives that apply. There can only be one declaration of compliance. There
will only be one signature binding the company to compliance. You can make the
MDoC look like a high school yearbook with signatures all over the place, but
the legally binding signature is the one at the bottom - where the typed name
and rank are shown.
Most companies have dealt with this process by having some organizing
effort to show compliance before the signature goes on the final document.
Usually, there is some attached documentation that the signing manager reads
thru that shows them that the product has been thoroughly evaluated and does
meet all of the requirements. This is where the test reports are cited by lab
and date and the respective managers in charge of each piece sign their name
showing confirmation of compliance.
Anyone committing a company certainly would want a lot of supporting
information before signing the declaration; any manager worth his salt would
seek the same. Remember that there is criminal, not just civil, liability for
misrepresenting the compliance of the product.
This whole business of organizing the requirements, the design to meet
these requirements along with the evaluations to the retirements including test
report from labs and keeping track of this information for the entire product
life plus 10 years is a major task. As a consultant, I find that most companies
are not prepared to do this without some additional effort.
Remember the sign in the outhouse (WC to some): the job is not over
until
the paperwork is finished.
