Q1: Can anyone tell me what construction you recommend for the drop-test
floor specified by IEC 601-1 (medical equipment) clause 21.5:
"50 mm thick hardwood board (for example, hardwood
greater than 700 kg/cubic meter) which lies flat on a
rigid base (concrete block)."
Q2:
Is anyone trying to come up with a standard drop-test surface? Each
standard I+m familiar with specifies them differently, few give enough
details for a consistent design.
Background:
Many standards call for drops onto some sort of wood surface, often 50
mm (2 inches) thick overall, often with an oak or hardwood surface. I
made one up a few years ago that was 2 sheets of ? inch plywood plus a
top surface of ? inch oak tongue-and-groove flooring, all laminated
together. (I'll bet that construction matches the floor in some specific
UL lab 50 years ago.) Exactly met one UL standard, I used it for
several others with similar requirements.
