IEC 825 deals with laser safety. For ITE like copiers and printers it applies
to the LED driven laser light generated. The intent is to avoid human exposure
to any laser powers levels beyond Class 1. The details are far beyond the
scope of this note. I have no problem with this.

There is a proposed IEC 825-1, which is apparantly including ANY LEDs for
possible scrutiny. If this is the interpretation to be applied by test houses,
it will be a disaster for the many products which merely use low power LEDs for
indicators. For example, a battery operated toy with a single LED might
require testing to IEC 825-1. The same would apply to many simple ITE products
using LEDs in a similar fashion.

Does anyone know if this was the intent of the authors of IEC 825-1, and if
test houses are going to follow the described interpretation if it is approved?
