Original inquiry follows resonse. Bob, I can't think of any disposal hazard associated with a diode operated laser assembly that it is not applicable to the whole machine. There are agents used in some flame retardants that are either banned or shunned in Europe, espc. Germany. But there is no greater likelihood of these in laser printhead than entire product.
I was filling out an environmental form for some European entity which asked how much of our product could be recycled. The answer is that ALL of any machine can be recycled, if one wants to badly enough. Cost usually determines how much WILL be recycled. I know in some cases lasing is done with diodes so I would assume there would be little added concern in regards to hazardous materials and equipment disposal, however since I am not a laser expert I do not know what else might be out there. I realize this is not a product safety compliance question, but the subject of equipment disposal is one which most manufacturers must deal with now a days, so I thought of this group. Can anyone share information on this subject? Again, I am only interested in lasers used in copiers and printers. Regards.
