RE: FLAMMABILITY ratings. In UL 1950 3; EN 60950, what do we need to consider with reference to grommets protecting insulated wire through a metal bulkhead within CLASS I EQUIPMENT? FLAMMABILITY, dielectric, abrasion etc.
Does small size exempt it from a burn rating? (mounted in a metal panel) Is there some consideration to abrasion? Although this application has no motion involved other then normal external vibration influences. Also does the statement all parts must be rated HB or better hold water, as it were, keeping the following in mind. " CSA C22.2 No. 950 UL 195 sec 4.4.2 Minimizing the risk of ignition states: "Where it is not practical to protect components against overheating under fault conditions, the components shall be mounted on materials of FLAMMABILITY CLASS V-1 or better, and shall be separated from less fire-resistant material by at least 13 mm of air." Also what about gasket material inches away from source of energy? What is the `letter' and `spirit' of the standard on this? It seems to me if the part can't contribute to the start or spread of fire the flame rating is just another form of over bureaucrating things (if that's a word). Any input from the group will be appreciated! Best regards, Terry J.
