To the Group:
We are developing a product with a built-in modem. The product
development team is interested in testing this device in the field
prior to completing the Part 68 registration. I know that Part 68
Rules prohibit connecting an unregistered modem to the public
telephone network. However, I also recall from the past that it was
possible to obtain permission for conducting field tests prior to
completing the registration process by first testing to make sure the
product meets the technical requirements of Part 68 and then notifying
the local telephone company. Is this still allowed, or should I
advise the product development team that they better hold off on field
testing until we actually get the product registered?
Thanks for your help.
