Tim: Your receiver frequency is very close to the third harmonic of your transmitter frequency. Perhaps the reflection off the adjacent car reinforced that harmonic to just exceed the rejection characteristics of the receiver. You might test that with a different (reflecting) car (with the same angular location relative to your vehicle) to see if it was a mixing/retransmitting phenomena or just a reflection (or something else!).
