Hello from Dayton the source of Aviation & the Wright Bros. Computer and Business Equipment Manufacturers Association is what CBEMA stands for in historic literature. This name has been changed to Information Technology Industry Council. ITIC Technical Committee 3, of which Rich Nute is a member, sponsored the development and publication of the tolerance curves for sag and drop out.
The name was changed because of the widening technology going beyond computers and business equipment. Also, many suppliers are no longer specifically manufacturers in the real sense of the word. ITIC is more comprehensive of the actual membership in the organization. TC3, Technical Committee 3, is the Power Interface committee at ITI. The New Chair is John Wagner of Lucent Technologies in Denver, Colorado. Due to the changing nature of technology of the power interface, this curve has just been revised by ITI, with the help of the Electrical Power Research Institute. Your question is quite timely, in that there is a debate as to what the name of this curve should be, since CBEMA has a name change to ITIC. Due to its history of reference as the CBEMA Curve, some think this should remain the name, but since ITIC is the sponsor, some think it should be changed. As to a new name for the curve, we will have to wait and see. If anyone has a suggestion they can send it to John Wager at Lucent. E-Mail: [email protected].
