Jim: The term "configured to its rated current" in this case means name plate rating. This section was to be changed but the two recent committee drafts were defeated and the present wording remains. The drafts were to take care of your concerns. It is more reasonable to use maximum normal load.

It states "ITE is tested with the equipment configured to its rated current. In this case, the equipment, if necessary, may be configured with its power supplies loaded with additional load (resistive) boards to simulate rated current conditions." Does this paragraph refer to the maximum input current rating as shown on the product's data plate or the maximized input current actually seen during normal operation? Since the input current rating shown on the data plate is a safety maximum not usually reached during normal operation, it seems unreasonable to me (not to mention cumbersome) to physically add load to the power supply to boost the current up to its rated input current. I can, however, easily determine the "worst case" normal operating mode to maximize the current. That, I believe, should be the intent of the standard. I would like to know how others interpret this paragraph of the standard and how this test is being performed. (Is anyone actually doing this test yet for ITE??)
