Oscar:  For North America you will need to look at J-563 (Mar. '90) in
the SAE Handbook, which gives dimensions for the socket and a few
critical ones for mating plugs.  It also points out an 8A max. current
restriction.  There is also a UL standard UL2089 for "Vehicle Battery
Adaptors" that is intended to cover power supplies that get their power
from the lighter socket.  This standard enforces SAE J-563.
