Hello Mark
>>Jan,
What intended system configuration does your company plan on marketing.
>>

This question came up, because we thought we bought a GOLDEN EMC PC for testing
our devices. But during the initial EMC emission test we found that even with a
open end USB cable or with a USB device the PC set-up was over the EN 55022
limits.

>>Ifthe intended configuration of the system is with a mouse then test it with
the mouse. If your company plans to package the device with other USB
peripherals then you must establish the worst case condition during
pre-compliance scans and test accordingly for your final compliance test.

You have no control over how the end-user is configuring the system, you
should base your test configuration on your companies intention of marketing
the device. If you sell many system configurations (multiple mother boards,
processor speeds. etc.) with multiple peripherals you may want a final test
report for each possible configuration.

Example: Our systems have USB capabilities, on one of our systems (not a PC
but does utilize a mother board) is intended to be marketed and packaged
with a USB mouse and USB keyboard only. We will never ship any other
configuration or USB peripheral with this system, so that makes it easy. My
test configuration will consist of the base system, USB keyboard, USB mouse,
RS232 serial port, parallel port and video port. This system will be our
only intended configuration. How our customer configures the system I can
not control, the user manual reflects the intended configuration our company
is selling/marketing. Naturally if this configuration changes i.e. mother
board, peripheral device, monitor, etc. for any reason then testing must be
performed once again to reflect out market intentions and configuration
sold.

But in case of a USB keyboard there in NO communication during the EMC test or
dou you have a automaic hand whichs does typing for you ;-)

>>>This is only my opinion on how would conduct my assessment for emissions
testing.

We developed USB Camera's and we must test them with a desk top PC
configuration.
If we could find a Golden EMC PC we would be happy.

Thanks in advance.
