Central New England IEEE EMC Society meeting on December 8, 1999 - at
Franklin, EMI Chamber

Note: EMC Corp. staff will conduct a tour of the new 10-meter semi-anechoic
Chamber between 5pm and 7pm prior to the technical presentation. See
directions below.

Technical Presentation

Antennas are a key part of the EMC engineers life and yet much about them is
often not fully understood. Many of the differences between different test
facilities can be traced to antenna issues. Understanding antenna behavior
during real measurements, site attenuation measurements and calibration,
sheds significant light on the discrepancies. To close this discussion the
design of an antenna, which was prepared for ANSI, will be explained in some
detail.
Colin E. Brench is a senior member of the technical staff at Compaq Computer
Corporation, formerly Digital Equipment Corporation. His responsibilities
include the EMC design of high performance Alpha based server products and
the development and application of computational electromagnetics for EMC
design. In this role he is closely involved with the EMC issues of many
system component parts from the microprocessor to the full system level.

He has presented numerous papers at IEEE EMC and ACES conferences on a
variety of EMC topics and is a co-author of the "EMI/EMC Computational
Modeling Handbook". His EMC community activities include membership of IEEE
EMCS TC-9 computational electromagnetics technical committee, ANSI C 63
SC-1, and the IEEE EMC Society. He has been granted six patents for various
means of EMI control and has others pending. Colin is a NARTE certified EMC
Engineer.

This meeting of the EMC Chapter will be held at 7:00PM on Wednesday December
