Brian, My understanding is that EN60331-1 covers only appliances (equipment) that are destinated to be used in a household environment. For example, EN60335-2-24 has specific requirements for household refrigerators, but does not have special requirements for laboratory refrigerators (where you may have flammable substances nearby or inside the product).
Therefore, by analogy, the fact that your pump has been tested and approved to EN60335 does not mean that it is totally safe to be used in a laboratory equipment. If I were you, I would look closely to EN61010-1 or other standards to identify other requirements that may not be within the scope of EN60335-1.
