Subject: First EMC prosecution in the UK

Hi, everyone
I hope the following is of interest.
On Wednesday, 8 October I attended, as an observer, the first prosecution
under the EMC Regulations in the UK.
The case was brought by Cardiff Trading Standards against a local
computer manufacturer who assembled computers from CE marked modules.
The company pleaded guilty to two charges:

* Failure to comply with the protection requirements and
* Incorrect use of the CE mark

and was fined
?1000 on each charge, and ordered to pay ?1000 costs.
A computer purchased by Trading Standards had been tested and found to be
significantly over the limit on conducted emissions.
The company had claimed that it had followed advice commonly understood
that CE + CE = CE, but now accepts that this is not true in all cases.

Subject: Looking for Horror Stories

To All:
My management is drafting an "educational" briefing for higher management on
the degree of seriousness of regulatory compliance (primarily aimed at EMC).
I would appreciate your sharing with me any tales of woe, penalties,
incarceration, or any other horror stories related to companies who have
either inadvertently not complied with the regulations, or who have been
deliberately lax in doing so. Again, EMC is more my interest.
                                Thank you,

Jim

        Hello everyone,

I need some "horror stories" on enforcement in Europe (to help
convince some managers we
        really have to comply).
        Anything new in this area?

        thanks in advance,
