Greetings Everyone.

I have a question for those of you that have spent some time with an HP
8566B or similar Spectrum Analyzer.

I've noticed a side to side jitter on the active signal trace from time
to time, up to 250 KHz each way (!!), and an occasional momentary
drop-out of the trace. This is only periodic, and seems to correct
itself after a few minutes, or if I do an instrument preset, or
re-configure the SA from the controller. The phenomenon seems much more
stable when viewing a span under 5.0 MHz.

I have the 462 Option and have done the cal-check on the 6dB resolution
band-width filters, and all other self-cal routines I can. I've also
checked and changed most of the interconnecting cables. I also have the
Preselector and Quazi peak adapter, but bypassing these doesn't seem to
change the problem, and neither does playing with the SA and Video
bandwidth settings.

I thought I'd pass this on to see if anyone out there's 'been there done
that', and have any ideas on troubleshooting this, before I find myself
with some down-time and repair bills I can't afford right now.

Thanks in advance if you can drop me a line.

Best regards,

Rob.
