        For those working with machinery or such, here's some new info from
some IEC standards...

Safety:

IEC 60447 (1993-04) Man Machine Interface (MMI)  Accuating principles:
establishes general actuating principles for manually operated actuators
forming part of the man machine interface associated with electrical
equipment.  Has the status of a basic safety publication in accordance with
IEC guide 104.

IEC 61310-3 (1999-02) Safety of Machinery - Indication, marking and
actuation - Part 3: Requirements for the location and operation of
actuators: according to the scope of the standard, it specifies the safety
related requirements for actuators, operated by the hand or by other parts
of the human body, at the man machine interface.  Based on IEC 60447, but
is also applied to non-electrotechnical technologies, such as mechanical
and fluid powered systems.

Terminology:

IEC 60446 (1993-02) -Basic and safety principles for the man machine
interface, marking and identification of conductors by colors or numerals:
Provides rules for the use of certain colors or the use of numerals for the
purpose of certain colors or the use of numerals for the purpose of
identification of conductors including bus bar.  Has the status of a basic
safety publication in accordance with IEC guide 104.
