In the past, once a standard was issued it would often be followed by one or more amendments, each of which had to be purchased separately. Sometimes these amendments involved very little (albeit vital) information. Now, with consolidated editions, standards, their amendments and corrigenda are sold as single packages. This helps to keep costs to customers lower while providing them with complete information. As an example of how this works, consider the following: Edition 1.0 is a base document without any amendments; Edition 1.1 is the base 1.0 edition consolidated with one amendment; Edition 1.2 is the base 1.0 edition consolidated with two amendments; Edition 2.0 is the second edition of a base document. This may include new information combined with amendments from Edition 1.X; Edition 2.1 is the second edition of a document consolidated with amendment 1 to that edition. It is possible to buy any combination of the documents. A complete list of all consolidated editions is available from the IEC Customer Service Center. C O M I N G S O O N ************************* IEC MULTILINGUAL DICTIONARY ON CD-ROM The IEC's Multilingual Dictionary, containing some 7 500 pages of hyperlinked pages and terms, will be available at the end of March on CD-ROM. It provides the full lexicon of electrotechnical terms, with definitions in English and French. Equivalent terms, without definitions, also appear in Arabic, Dutch, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish (in certain cases, definitions appear in Russian and Spanish). The Multilingual Dictionary on CD-ROM, which replaces the hard copy dictionary dating back to 1992, is expected to be updated annually.
