The "date of cessation of presumption of conformity of superseded
standards" is 1 Jan 2001. What this means is from that date you have to
apply the standard to products within its scope, if you use the standards
route to compliance.

The listing in the Official Journal of the European Communities means
that you can apply it now, if you want, or the superseded standards. In
this case these are EN 60555-2 for products within the scope of that
standard, or nothing for products outside its scope.

A revised IEC/EN 61000-3-2 is being pushed through at present, which
*may* be a case of "out of the frying pan and into the fire". This may
or may not be published in time for a listing in the OJ in time for 1 Jan
2001. The four year reduction to 50 W may not survive into the later
edition, or it may be revised subsequently. In view of the ban on
"certification clauses" (... previous standard may be used until ...) in
ENs, it may just be deleted.

Sorry that this may not be the simple answer you were looking for, but
this is my attempt to simplify a very complex situation.

Best wishes
