Dear List,

The topic is more precisely a 4 axis amplifier/driver for servo motors, a
device which essentially buffers/amplifies signals from a PC based
controller card; wired to any of a wide variety of motors (up to 48 VDC)
chosen by the customer to perform some task.  The enclosure is metal and
about 3U in height.

Regarding EMC.

Some time ago I was told that EN 61800-3 (EMC for APDSs) was considered a
rogue EMC standard due to the several relaxations it contained regarding
emission testing, plus the unusual and somewhat subjective Walkie-Talkie RF
immunity test.  The generic standards were recommended.  This standard was
a product of SC 22G.  I am presently using the control aspect in the scope
of EN 61326-1 to test our new APDS designs for CE compliance.

Has there been any attempt to modify this EN 61800-3?  As strange as it is,
why is EN 61800-3 so much less a target of political/technical objections
than measurement, control, and laboratory equipment EMC standard EN
61326-1?

Regarding safety.

The applicable standard is somewhat unclear.  Until lately I believed it to
be EN 50178.  But the scope of this standard does not clearly name APDSs
either directly or indirectly, and seems to be strictly for power
conversion in power stations or sub-stations.  The EMC standard EN 61800-3
fails to name an appropriate safety standard.  My question is - does such a
standard exist as EN?  Otherwise is EN 61010-1 acceptable?
