Our major customer wrote to us a fortnight ago, "requesting"
an MSDS for one small part of the equipment we sell and
reminding us that we had a legal responsibility to supply one.
The critical point is if the material from which the part is made
is "hazardous" - and what isn't now days?

>From searching the Web, I discovered that there wasn't a
European MSDS for the finished material easily available, but I
did learn that there is a States side standard (ANSI 16, I think)
for MSDSs and a European standard (Directive 91/155/EEC
from 1991) - similar, but not quite the same.

If anyone else has problems with this bit of legislation, drop
me a line and I'll give you the web sites that were helpful.

Regards, Mark

PS I got the European style MSDS by contacting our supplier
of the finished item, who got in touch with the UK distributor of
the tube from which it's made, who Faxed the material
manufacturer in Germany who had an MSDS already on
record. When we eventually got it, it had been Faxed so
many times it had to be retyped, but at least we got it in the
end.
