UL has stated that the burden of acoustic limiting can be placed either on the headset or the host equipment. This was discussed at the UL's IAC meeting in January. You can contact Tom Burke for information from the minutes. They would probably expect you to explain to the user that the headset needs to provide the protection. You also better not recommend or imply a solution that fails the acoustic requirements. In other words, if a headset is an important part of the system, there should be a functioning solution available.
