Richard,

Article 100 of the National Electrical Code (NEC) defines Readily
Accessible as follows:

"Capable of being reached quickly for operation, renewal, or inspections,
without requiring those to whom ready access is requisite to climb over or
remove obstacles or to resort to portable ladders, etc."

I do not have a copy of the Canadian Electrical Code, but suspect the
requirements to be similar.

Considering the number of lawyers in the US, this definition should be
adequate for the rest of the world.

Best Regards,

Jody Leber

Subject: Disconnect Device

Clause 1.7.2 of IEC 60950 and its clones requires the installation
instruction to state that permanently connected equipment must have a
"readily accessible" disconnect device incorporated in the fixed wiring if
the equipment does not have a disconnect device.

What is the criteria for assessing if the disconnect device is "readily
accessible"?
