Hi Chris Indeed, your comments (copied below) may well be happening now, at least in the US!
>I applaud the activities of the Politically Correct, Environmental police, Nature preserving amongst us, but I sometimes wonder if their enthusiasm is insufficiently tempered with a longer term view, or what used to be called Wisdom. Charging ahead blindly into doing the right thing today may well be laying the foundations of catastrophe for the future, the truth is we probably don't know.< Per a "60 minutes" TV show the other day. The gasoline industry here was "rushed" into adding an oxygenator MTBE to gasoline (at least in the winter months) a few years ago, in order to comply with a mandate to reduce exhaust emissions. I.E. to " clean up the air" Now, this chemical is finding it's way into many water system wells from gas station tank leaks, and apart from the fact it smells and tastes bad, it is a suspected carcinogen and there is no effective method yet to remove it! A number of city wells have already had to be closed due to excessive amounts of MTBE, and large lawsuits are being filed against the oil companies. However, we are still putting MTBE into gasoline today! And our EPA seems helpless in quickly resolving this potential catastrophic problem! I normally take these types of media "revelations" with a "grain of salt" But this info seemed real, and quite disturbed me. So, if anyone has any better real data than please share it with us.
