Bill It's not mandatory, but I would recommend it. It should remove the need for anyone (such as customs officials) to open the boxes to check that the product carries the marking. The relevant part of the European Commission Guidelines states (I quote verbatim): "It would be sensible, but it is not mandatory, to more readily facilitate free movement to affix the CE marking to more than one place, for example, marking the outer packaging, as well as the apparatus inside can be ascertained without opening the package.
