FYI...

Some of my clients in the Pacific Northwest are grappling with the
requirement for phytosanitary certificates for wood pallets and wood
crating materials being sent from the US, Canada, China, and Japan.

This is in response to an emergency quarantine directive, 2001/219/EC,
designed to stop the spread of Bursaphelenchus Xylophilus.
Directive 2001/219/EC is to be used in conjunction with Directive
2000/29/EC.

The emergency directive comes into force 1 Oct. 2001. The requirement is
for the wood manufacturer to supply a phytosanitary certificate regarding
compliance with provisions for heat treating, pressure treating, and
fumigation (see 2001/219/EC, Annex, also 2000/29/EC, Articles 7-10 and
Annex VII A).

Hope this helps anyone who may have not seen this requirement yet.

Frank West
