Doug ---------------- Hidden Threats to Electronic Equipment Sometimes the connection between equipment malfunction and its cause can be difficult to make. This month's Technical Tidbit at http://www.dsmith.org covers a hidden form of ESD that has caused design engineers a lot of trouble in recent years. The article describes how simply bringing a coffee cup (or other object)that has a static charge near a piece of equipment can, under the right conditions, cause strong EMI with bandwidths to several GHz to originate inside of the equipment! Also described is a method to know when it is happening and to measure the potential for problems from the EMI.
