Dear Brian I am led to believe (but haven't checked for myself) that under Machinery directive standards steps should be taken by manufacturers to inform users to employ hearing protection measures when equipment emits ultrasonic sound pressure levels of 110dBA or above over the range 20kHz - 100kHz (measured using ISO 3746 or ISO 9614-1 in the specified acoustic test chamber).
