In directive 93/86/EEC (relating to batteries containing certain dangerous substances), it says "the symbol shall cover 3% of the area of the largest side of the battery or accumulator, up to a maximum size of 5 cm x 5 cm. For cylinrical cells the symbol shall 3% of half the surface area of the battery or accumulator and shall a maximum size of 5 cm x 5 cm."
