For what it is worth I have found the following programs (free or low cost) to
be of great assistance in dealing with the intricacies of Electromagnetic
behavior in it's various forms. A great alternative to the $80,000 EM
Simulator add-in for Cadence CAD systems.

"EZNEC" by Roy Lewallen (a derivative of NEC2 with a good user interface)
"TOROID" (a great aid) www.members.aol.com/toroids/johnindx.htm
"SONNET-LITE" (free student version - good HF EM modeler but limited in nodes)
www.sonnetusa.com
"APLAC" (free student version circuit simulator) Great for digesting HF
circuits www.aplac.com
"RealTime" by Huan-Shang Tsai (great - low cost - 2D EM Field Simulator -ISBN
0-8493-2365-7) www.crcpress.com
also of use is ARRL-"Radio Designer" (a limited - but helpful RF CAD program,
ISBN 0-87259-679-6) www.arrl.org

While humble compared to some "high $$$$" simulators like the offerings from
ANSOFT or ZELAND, these programs provide tremendous assistance for limited (or
free) cash outlay. When the marketing types force you to deal with a new
product containing a TI-320 series DSP @100+ Mhz in a plastic case (read-Comb
Generator), you need all the help you can get.

Subject: NEC-2 simulations

I have been using NEC-2 antenna software for simulations of EMC situations.
Antenna-to-antenna, ferrites on cables, DUT cables, BC station field strength,
and such. Anyone else using NEC for this?
