Many of the interfaces have organizations that support them. For instance, try http://www.usb.org/developers/docs/usb_20.zip USB has safety built into the standard, in terms of LPS, per IEC60950-1, et al. The USB spec. is free. I think the firewire (IEEE 1394) standard also has limitations built in, but that standard has to be purchased. http://www.pcmcia.org/pccardstandard.htm gives an overview of the pc card standard, but you'll have to purchase the standard to find out any other details.
