IEC215 is now known as IEC60215. It applies to radio transmitting equipment. It is a harmonised standard and is listed under the R&TTE Directive, Article 3(1)a.
In my opinion it is not a very good standard, and is insufficient on it's own. You are unlikely to be able to issue a Declaration of Conformity based on applying this standard alone. I would never apply it without also applying EN60950. It may be slightly better than parts of EN60950 as far as both ionising and non-ionising radiation hazards are concerned. It also includes specific provisions for interlocks on cabinets and enclosures and the provision of earthing wands. It is clearly written with large transmitters in mind. There is also an Appendix (D) that addresses the competence of personnel who are designated as skilled to work on such equipment. It is available as a British Standard, BS EN 60215:1996. Looking at the Official Journal this standard is no longer valid for declaring compliance with the LVD. Our equipment meets the relevant safety requirements of EN60950 for electrical safety and EN50383 for SAR. Is IEC215 a standard for broadcast equipment? - could anyone confirm its scope for me.
