Hello Peter, I believe the USB spec was written with IEC60950 (clause 2.5: Limited Power Sources) in mind. It is not 100% guarantee to pass the requirement until being tested upon. So far I haven't come across system with USB interface (version 1.0 ~2.0) that fail this requirement.
