For a current injection probe (or inductive clamp), the Insertion Loss = 20
log (Vout/Vin), where Vout is the voltage obtained at the connector of the
probe, and Vin is the voltage applied through the cable/conductor being
clamped by the probe.
The insertion loss values can be given by the manufacturer of the probe, or
can be measured in a 50 Ohm env., with a calibration jig, a generator, and a
measuring set (scope, SA, RF voltmeter) - for the calibration jig, see Annex
A of EN61000-4-6.
The probe is usually reversible and can be used for either inducing RF
fields in cables, or measuring conducted disturbance. Another useful
parameter is the Transfer Impedance of the probe, which can be measured, or
calculated function of the Insertion Loss.

Hope it helps.

Subject: Insertion loss of an injection probe

Dear group,

I have a BCI testing standard that states the insertion loss of an injection
probe must be less than 7dB. Does anyone have an idea about what they mean
by the insertion loss?

Thanks,

Luke Turnbull
