Hi All, Canadian labs can be accredited (and I know of at least one that is) for testing to the Korean MIC requirements, under the scope of the Canada/Korea MRA. However, they are still required to test and supply reports for each of the required disciplines (as applicable - EMC, Safety, Telecom, Wireless). There is currently no MRA between the US and Korea that allows for similar acceptance of local test reports. This will no doubt be resolved with the roll-out and implementation of the APEC MRA in the relative countries. Telecom equipment that is supplied to a licensed Korean carrier may be exempt >from full telecom approval (which mandates EMC, Safety and Telecom testing). In this case, it need only meet the EMC test requirements and be approved under EMC registration. However, documentation/evidence (such as sales invoice/contract listing a licensed Korean carrier) must be provided to the agency for verification. If the above does not or cannot be applied, full telecom approval is required as a regulatory requirement - which requires EMC (emissions and immunity), Safety and Telecom testing. Hope this clarifies. Best Regards, Chun Kim Approval Specialists Inc. ----- Original Message -----

While we are aware testing is normally required to transpire in Korea: * What tests are required - EMC, Immunity, Safety, NAL .( Network Access License) * I've heard there is a lab in Canada and a lab in Southern CA. that can perform these tests at their facility instead of going to Korea.? * Are there different requirements for selling to major telecom carriers or to private companies? * Are there exemptions allowed when selling to major Telecom carriers? ( See below from translated MIC Telecom Legal Documents) If so, how does the exemption work? Are you exempt from all testing requirements? What evidence is needed to apply for the exemption.? ( Letter from Major Telecom customer? ) "Telecommunication Equipment Certification Rule " issued by MIC on May 22, 2000 defines: "the equipment subject to the exemption of type certification" at Section 4. Section 4.4 mentioned that the equipment will be used by Facility Based Carrier get exemption of Type Approval. All comments appreciated.....
