26 Pages. You need this if you've never done any 
noise testing, but once you've looked at it a 
couple of times and got your standard report 
format laid out you'll probably never refer to it 
again.

You need one or the other of these - not both 
since they describe different ways of doing the 
same job. These standards describe a mathematical 
procedure to allow you to calculate the sound 
power level from measurements of the sound 
pressure. In the context of the machinery 
directive you only need to do this if  the 
equivalent continuous a-weighted sound pressure 
level at workstations exceeds 85dB(A). Otherwise, 
don't worry about it.

[My contention is that any standard that claims 
to provide a "precision" method to measure sound 
level is having you on, but that's a separate 
argument.]

Useful,  if you are actually having problems 
making your machinery quieter and don't know much

I think this applies to an acoustic control cabin 
such as might be placed over a generator or 
compressor, but I may well be wrong. It's 
certainly not clear from the information on the 
BSI web site and I don't have a copy.

You'd have to ask CEN or the Commission about that.

Tip - buy the ISO standards on-line from the ISO 
web store. They are marginally more expensive but 
you get the vastly more convenient PDF versions 
and you can have them now rather than when the 
postal service decide to deliver them to you.
