I've run into the same problem updating my bibliography on bypassing,
decoupling, and power distribution inside electronic products/equipment
( http://www.dbicorporation.com/pwr-bib.htm ), and writing my latest
two books (Robust Electronic Design Reference Book, Volumes 1 and 2,
Kluwer Academic Publishers, http://www.wkap.nl/prod/b/1-4020-7739-4 ,
due out in late March).
Sometimes I get lucky, and already have a full citation for the same
year of the symposium/meeting in one of my files, which I can just
copy.
If your company library or a local university library has the
proceedings, the cover and title page will almost always have the
date(s) and location. I've gotten into the habit of copying the title
page of a proceedings/book, and the table of contents of a magazine/
journal, whenever I'm doing research at a library.
If they don't have the exact proceedings you are looking for, a
previous one may mention the dates and locations of upcoming
symposiums/meetings, to give you the information.
Or the Chairman's spiel in the next year's proceedings usually talks
about how great last year's symposium/meeting held in ____________ on
________ through _______ went.
If none of these work, try an Internet search for the symposium/
meeting, and you may find a web site with the information about it. Or
it may be referenced in a paper where the author was kind enough to
provide the full citation (a practice that I try to follow in my
writings).
Look for later papers written by the same author(s), and check their
references. We authors do tend to list some of our earlier written
works in our references and bibliographies...
