This talk will look at the tests typically performed on-site, that are required to provide the evidence in a Technical Construction File (TCF) submitted for approval to an EMC Directive Competent Body. Practical problems with measurement are highlighted and discussed. Steve Hayes is the Principal UK expert to CISPR/B and Secretary of WG1 and 2, the Standard which covers large equipment and in-situ tests. He has worked for TRL for 13 years and is responsible for TRL's EMC and Radio Division comprising of 3 EMC test facilities and mobile test teams. TRL is a product approval company based in the UK and employs 38 engineers in this field. EMC of wired networks, Brian Jones EMC Consultant and Competent Body signatory. The EMC issues of wired networks have come to prominence recently with the upgrading of existing copper networks to carry digital signals at higher bit rates. This has produced challenges in the regulatory and standards arenas which have yet to be resolved. The presentation will describe the compliance and enforcement issues associated with current developments, for both the network itself, and the terminal equipment. Brian Jones has been involved with EMC for twenty years, for the last nine as a consultant and, prior to that, in BT where he created and managed a UKAS-accredited laboratory. He is secretary to the CENELEC EMC committee TC210 and to its WG1 dealing with coordination and strategic matters. He is chairman of the trade association Intellect's EMC committee and represents them at the BSI EMC Committees.
