We use Mini-circuits amplifiers. They are relatively inexpensive ~$300. They work very well, and are a bit ESD sensitive. (We purchased some transient suppressors to protect them.) The replacement amplifiers chips internal are about $0.12, so they have been cheap to repair.

Any suggestions on a make and model of pre-amp with useful frequency range of at least 1GHz to 3GHz? It would be nice if it was fairly ESD sensitive also (I have a Rohde & Schwarz model that my technicians have fried twice because it is very ESD sensitive). Thank you all in advance.
