Amund, The correct requirement for the power adaptor is that it must be a "limited Power Source" (LPS), which is more than only current limitation.
My experience with several labs is that they issue CB testreports with and without listing the power supplies. Obtaining a CB certificate in both cases is never an issue. Some CB reports have no power supplies listed in the Table of Safety critical components and have a note stating that the product must be powered >from an AC/xC adapter that complies with the requirements of Limited Power Source of Clause 2.5. Other CB reports have 1 or more power supplies listed in the Table of Safety critical components and also have that note. However, be carefull that all tests related to the AC mains are done. Sometimes these tests are missing if no dedicated supply is listed in the CB report. Make also sure that the power supply you choose later on complies with the LPS requirement. Many CB reports do not mention that requirement, or only mention it on a very limited number of product types of a hughe product family included in that report. For the EU region, we fulfill EMC, LVD and RTTE. Since we may sell this device outside EU, we will go for a CB test report / certificate. The radio device will be sold by a standalone AC/DC adapter, which is bought from an external power supply dealer. Today, we have picked 4 potential adapter that fits good to our equipment and they all have CB certicicates and UL listed. The radio device have an enclosure of HB material and that means we have to select adapters which is classified as "limited current source" ref. chapter 2.5 in IEC60950:1999. Note: Tha adapter is not included in the radio device, it is a seperate unit. Question: We have asked for a CB test report / certificate for our radio device. The cert. body have told us that the adapters have to be listed in the CB report. Is that correct ? If so, I may be stucked with these 4 adapters into the future and if we find a new type that is much cheapter and holds the same approvals / specs, do we have to ask for a revised CB report ? Could the CB body in general terms state in the report that " ....the radio devive must be powered by an adapter what is a limited current source, holds a CB certificate, etc ...."?
