I suggest you rather check CISPR 16-1 (one) Ed.2.1 2002/ 10 on Quasi Peak
Detectors / Receivers(RX).
There is a new numbering system out (www.iec.ch look for Database Search
CISPR 16...) I think it is now CISPR 16-1-1, 2003/11 measuring apparatus.

2.)
A QP Detector is checked with certain fast rise time (<1ns) test
pulses/rates (CISPR 16-1..). These short pulses have very high amplitudes
and a broad spectrum (>1GHz)!
The idea is basically to take the RX as a black box, connect the QP test
generator to the 50 ohm antenna input and read the QP meter (with about 40dB
DR). This includes overall dynamic range (DR) and non
linearity...intermodulation etc and some 1kHz audio response filtering, as
well as repetition rate weighting of the test pulses (tab. in CISRP 16-1).

Some new work has been done at PTB EMC Lab Germany Braunschweig by Dr.
Spitzer (I think only in German) on how to calibrate QP Generators/EMI
receivers in a traceable way in frequency domain by using the overall RX
band-filter characteristics incl. phase. This is somehow ( Pulse Amplitude!,
assuming linearity? )a procedure to calibrate the QP generator.  Check e.g.
with R+S Munich/Memmingen DKD (equivalent to NAVLAP) EMI RX Calibration Lab.
As far as I know they still have to use the QP Generator for calibration RX.

I hope this helps a little. Your suggested procedure covers only partly the
full check.

Can anyone advise me as to how I might verify that the quasi peak detector
of our receiver is giving accurate results, other than by sending it for
calibration? I have a signal generator and also a spectrum analyser and have
checked that both the receiver and spectrum analyser give an accurate
indication of the signal generator output level with a pure sine wave. The
two meters also indicate very similar signal levels when I apply a sine wave
with 80% modulation, although the indicated quasi peak level is not
significantly below the peak level.
Is this sort of thing covered in CISPR 16-2 somewhere?
