Amendment 2 of EN 61000-4-4 isn't "mandatory" under EN 55024, which calls out
the 1995 version of IEC 61000-4-4 (EN 61000-4-4).

Well, there's EN 61000-4-4 Amendment 2 (2001) which adds the 1000 Ohm waveform
verification. That's already in effect. Amendment 2 is mandatory for CE
marking as of July 1, the date of withdrawal for the old standard. As Bob
said, check with the manufacturer of your burst tester to see if it's still
compliant.

Then there's also a final draft edition 2.0 (77B/419/FDIS) that I think is out
for vote right now. Among other things, this edition would add the 100kHz
spike frequency, fix the tolerance on the 1000 Ohm attenuator, and add common
mode injection. This one is still a little ways out in the future, but again
it's worth checking to see if your existing equipment would be compliant.

Best Regards,
Chris

Ian,

I remember seeing the draft document for the 61000-4-4 standard. The big
things that stick in my mind are the addition of a 100kHz burst frequency
(with a shorter burst duration), and also a waveform verification done into a
50 ohm load as well as a 1000 ohm load. Some existing generators will meet the
new requirement, some won't.

I have not seen the final document, so I can't comment on that.

All
The IEC website shows that the ESD and fast transient testing standards have
been revised. See the following link
http://www.iec.ch/online_news/justpub/jp_2004/jp.htm#emc. However, it
doesn't give any details of the changes. Does anyone know what these changes
are?

Furthermore, in answer to an earlier posting of my own (!) it is not
permitted to copy British Standards under the CLA scheme.
Publishers must agree to join the scheme and the following is a link to
publishers which have chosen not to join the scheme
