I did, in 1979. We at Experimental Physics (myself, Hugh Hyatt and Hugh
Calvin) were attempting to prove the waveform for an ESD project to DEC,
Maynard Mass. Their consultant, Michael King, was using a crude target
(nicknamed the ski-sled because of its structure) which we objected to. DEC
asked us to design a target with better performance so we produced the coaxial
target which was attempting to maintain coaxial impedance using the carbon
comp resistors. The one finally chosen by us was one of about 10 designs we
came up with! and it performed much better that the rest. The target
eventually ended up at an IEC meeting and for some strange reason, unknown
even to Dr. Pelligrini himself, was nicknamed the Pelligrini target. This
target was offered for sale by us from 1980 to 1982, then Electrometrics from
1982 onweards (after they bought out the product line from Experimental
Physics) and eventually offered by all other ESD gun manufacturers.

Who really invented the Peligrini target?
