I can see it now. It's the future and that well know operating system from Redmond Washington is installed in all vehicles. The police investigator walks over to a car that has just crashed into a building. He writes the driver a ticket for "Operation with suspended or revoked software" because the outside of the vehicle does not have an operating system license registration sticker. The officer then turns his attention to the inside of the vehicle. He pulls back the now deflated airbag. He notices the dongle is still in the ignition and the car electronics are still in standby mode. The driver's information LCD and GPS navigator is still turned on. Currently, the LCD is running a screensaver. The police investigator leans over and touches the touchscreen to reactivate the display. He sees a message on the LCD and leans over to read what it says... "Are you sure you want to hit the brakes?" Hope you had a good laugh. Maybe the ultimate solution is to legislate that all vehicle computer software be based on a product from a well known operating system developer in Redmond Washington. That way the cops wouldn't have to do anything, just wait for the software to crash. The car will restart when all the windows have been closed. The only wrinkle to this is that hopefully the software in the police cruiser doesn't crash at the same time.
