Problem with 10 yrs retention period is that it meets LVD/EMCD etc but you can
still be caught by the Product Liability Directive which allows plaintiffs 3
years from date at which the injury became apparent to make a claim against
you - and if that happens on day 365 of year 10 ..................!!!!

Regarding US/Canada, it is not really UL/CSA etc., who set the "real rules"
but the CPSA etc., and state/local legislation which is going to hit you for
the similar reasons!!

Hello Chris,

In Europe, you have to keep the technical file for 10 years after the last
production.
Knowing that some standards have a requirement for production test, we can
consider that the hipot record are part of this technical file.
So, it's my meaning you have to keep these records for at least 10 years.
I don't remember if UL, CSA or other test houses have the same kind of
requirements.

Pierre

Does anyone know of any statutory retention periods for Hi-pot test records in
any country? That's Hi-pot safety checks made on new finished product prior to
shipping.

Regards,

Chris
