Hello Duncan,

I have applied IEC 61010-1 to products using fluids and gases under low and
high pressures. I don't know what you have done to address overpressure but
be aware that the maximum pressure you might need to apply to the system is
3 times the rated pressure to comply with the standard. Also, are you
regulating the water pressure? If not, you may need to use an overpressure
device that purges into a drain.

Finally, you might consider a recirculating chiller, if you do not want to
deal with the ground water protection issues. I've used this with diffusion
pumps in years past.

        We have a product that requires a constant supply of water to be
able to function. The equipment is Laboratory control and mesurement
equipment and will eventually be tested to IEC61010-1 as well as the EN
and UL versions of the same standard.

Section 11 of IEC1010-1 addresses hazards associated with fluids,
however it seems biased towards high pressure or fluids that are
contained in a finite quantity within the product. The situation I have
is a low pressure fluid that is continuosly supplied.

Do any of you list members have any opinions on how the standard may
apply to this situation? As far as I can see, in our instance the only
real requirement is that the equipment is safe under a single fault -
i.e leakage, but to ensure containment of the fluid we would need a drip
tray, float switch and inlet stop valve to ensure that it doesn't just
leak fluids over all the eletrical parts.

On another slightly different topic, I do recall in the U.S. (and
specifically California)there were regulations for groundwater
protection that included equipment containing fluids. Is anyone on the
list familiar with these regulations or can point me to a source of
information.

For your info, the fluid I am talking about is chilled water, that most
likely contains a biocide and anti corrosion agent.

As usual any advice or comments would be grately appreciated.
