All,

There will be a Northeast Product Safety Society meeting on Wednesday,
January 26, at EMC Corporation's Customer Briefing Center at 42 South
Street in Hopkinton, MA. A social hour with light refreshments will
begin at 7:00 PM and the technical meeting will start at 7:30 PM. Doug
Geralde, Director of CSA’s Corporate Audits and Investigations Group,
will be presenting this month’s technical topic concerning CSA’s
trademark anti-counterfeiting efforts. If you will be in the area,
please feel free to join us as NPSS membership or advanced notice is not
required.

The general focus of Doug’s presentation will be to briefly describe CSA
and then using power point slides detail several investigative cases
involving counterfeit safety products. This will be followed by a
description of the many initiatives that CSA International is doing to
combat this growing problem, as well as what people should be on the
look out for, to ensure they are not the victims of counterfeit
products.

Doug Geralde is the Director of CSA’s Corporate Audits and
Investigations Group. Doug joined CSA in 1977 and is member of CSA’s
Senior Management team. He currently heads up the CSA’s corporate group
of Investigators, who follow up on product field incidents. Doug has
conducted many investigations in his 24 years in the Audits and
Investigations Group. He has worked with various Electrical Regulatory
Authorities, Police and Fire Departments throughout North America,
Europe and in the Far East. He has attended many inquests and appeared
in court as an expert witness on behalf of CSA. Doug has also conducted
system and Quality Assurance audits on manufacturing facilities and CSA
offices around the world.

Under his affiliations, Doug was the 2001 President of the International
Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI). Doug is currently the IAEI
VP International Affairs, member of the Global Affairs Committee and the
Canadian Section Representative of the IAEI Education Committee. He is
also a member on the Canadian Council of Fire Marshal & Fire
Commissioners, Chair of the Anti-Counterfeiting Task Group for the
Canadian Advisory Council on Electrical Safety and is an active member
of the International Association of Arson Investigators. Doug through
his work in the investigation area is also a Special Advisor to the
Chief Coroners and Chief Medical Examiners of Canada. Most recently he
has been appointed Chair of the International Committee at IACC, which
is the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition based in Washington
D.C. He has worked with the various Police organizations including FBI,
RCMP and INTERPOL as part of CSA’s growing strategies to combat global
counterfeiting problems.

If you or anyone you know would like to give a product safety technical
presentation, please contact Paul Smith, our meeting scheduler, by email
at [email protected]. A technical presentation should be 45 to 60
minutes in duration and be related to product safety. Although the
presentation may reference your company and it’s services, the
presentation must not be simply company advertising. We would also
appreciate any slides or handout materials be made available for posting
on the NPSS web site. Releasing presentation materials for posting is
desired but not a requirement to make a presentation.

The 2005 NPSS meeting schedule is available on the NPSS website at
