Benoit Nadeau did a very interesting presentation on the effects of various "scrolling H" patterns; The presentation was entitled "The need for a new ANSI C63.4 H Pattern or how to make a passing product fail" presented in Santa Clara at the IEEE International EMC Symposium.
The H size and density for different monitors and video card combinations can produce drastically different results. Throw in monitor cable placement, position and construction and you now have that rat's nest to sort through.
