We're not routinely using Ni on steel, but I wouldn't expect any major problems. Nickel is generally a very good finish from both the oxidation and conductivity/resistivity viewpoint. You might find it useful to refer to the table of electrochemical potentials in Annex J of EN/IEC/UL 60950. I do think that you would find nickel to be rather costly. Have you also considered a bright acid tin finish? I think that you might find this rather less expensive than nickel, and it is very close to steel in the activity series, so your potential for corrosion would be very low indeed.
