Hi Scott & Jim (and others):
Our component power supply company makes products that operate over a wide
range of AC input conditions.
It's interesting to hear systems are being designed with circuitry
_restricting_ operation on certain power sources.
What is the concern driving this?

We do this all the time. We make one version of the product and have internal
jumpers or selectors for various line voltages and frequencies. We also have
built-in detection so it won't run on voltage or frequency it is not supposed
to. So our products are hard-wired (so-to-speak) for say 100 V 60 Hz or 220 V
60 Hz or whatever. We only make one rear label and it has the CE Mark, the
Wheelie Bin, an NRTL mark, etc. Yes, we are using the CE Mark for easier
access to some countries, but I don't know of any law that prohibits this. And
it makes manufacturing easier.

Are there any EU rules that would stop us from CE-marking a product
designed for and sold in a non-EU country that says they'll accept a
CE Mark? The product would not be our standard CE offering for Europe
because the design needs to be modified for a 220Vac, 60Hz line
voltage.
Objectively, I can't think of any reason why this would run afoul of
CE/EU rules, but my gut says otherwise.
