Chris:

This subject reminds me of a spec I once had for a power supply.

Because part of the power supply subassembly was visible through the back
panel (the IEC inlet connector, fuse holder, and ratings information), the
customer was concerned that a scratched power supply panel would make their
system look bad. They specified it like this:
"The power supply chassis will have no visible scratches when viewed by a
person with 20/20 vision under typical room lighting for a period of 10
seconds."

John - thanks but I asked if there was a spec - I already know what en
60065 says

"Markings shall be permanent, comprehensible and easily discernable on
the apparatus when ready for use."

I don't call that a spec it is far too vaugue it does not even say
easily discernable with the unaided eye!!

I'm looking for a font size even if it is just a
recommendation...........

See the first sentence of clause 5 of EN 60065:2002.
